Another pic of the packsaddle, aka the saddleback caterpillar.1884 Bill Arp’s Scrap Book: “I wonder if Harris ever saw a pack saddle. Well, its as putty as a rainbow, just like most all of the devil’s contrivances, and when you crowd one of em on a fodderblade you’d think that forty yaller jackets had stung you all in a bunch.”

Does anyone know the name of this wildflower? Rising Fawn GA USA.
UPDATE: This is Tradescantia, or as it’s more commonly known: Spiderwort.
Wikipedia also had a neato fact: “The cells of the stamen hairs of some Tradescantia are colored blue, but when exposed to sources of ionizing radiation such as gamma rays, the cells mutate and change color to pink; they are one of the few tissues known to serve as an effective bioassay for ambient radiation levels.”
This little flower captured my heart as a child, as I had never seen a BLUE like this before. Thanks to leekfixer and videre licet for the identification!!
